Theme: The ungiven gift

Tuesday

Lead Schleppelin

Around 47 million human lifetimes back-to-back ago, single-celled anaerobic life got going on our rocky space-island, traversing the gradients of minerals it offered. They spent a helluva long time figuring out some very cool tricks. So cool, they started swapping stuff, and it’s been a deeply sexy time ever since, with a whole lotta love and fluids.

Not long down from the trees, a bunch of apes high on their own bullshit came to the understanding that this was all for them, even though quite a lot of them was not them at all. (Because each ape were themselves a community of gradient surfing creatures.) Nevertheless, they mesmerised their consciousness with tokens they called money. The ones that had hoarded the most occasionally made a big show of ‘gifting’ these to the communities they had stolen them from.

But it was worthless. And the gift of life they’d surfed on began to swap more microplastics than genes, as it dissolved into an acidic ocean of communication breakdown.
