Practice makes perfect goes the saying. The practice of trying to make the perfect machine, an oracle that can address any cognitive challenge, certainly involves astonishing levels of training. No muscles are involved, no store of ATP gets burned, but the highest amount of embedded energy by weight ever devised by humans goes into fabricating the billions of switches packed into a GPU. And that’s *before* their integrated circuits are integrated into fabricating plausibility out of profligacy.
Ask a degenerative AI a question and with all its necrotic, frenetic, algorithmic work safely shrouded in the Cloud, we marvel at its ease.
With that apparent ease, comes waste. Metals of unalloyed purity spewing cultural effluent, pumping entropic waste into skies, oceans and soils, wasting and withering thought.
Pretty soon we’ll have a catastrophic cascade of atrophy for humanity to place in its trophy cabinet and say “This was us”. We got wasted and laid ourselves to waste.
The atrophy cabinet
