Theme: Between breaths

Sunday

Expiration

One day we’ll once again value creativity more than
the machines made with coal plundering and regurgitating it,
but don’t hold your breath.

One day we’ll price ancient phytoplankton become oil,
and ancient woodland become coal at their replacement cost,
but don’t hold your breath.

One day we’ll rate trees alive today more highly than
the roads built to pull their carcasses out,
but don’t hold your breath.

One day, instead of denuding soil, we’ll reinvigorate it,
becoming Humus Sapiens, but don’t hold your breath.

One day we’ll fill our lungs with care,
suffuse our being with the magical variety of life,
but don’t hold your breath.

Because capital, the destroyer of its own world,
sees no limts, and won’t pause for breath.
